Simultaneous Release in China & Korea for Song Joong-ki’s Movie ‘Battleship Island’ in 2017


“Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong-ki, who is no longer appearing in the upcoming Season 2 of the Korean drama, is shifting image from being an Army captain to a prisoner of war for his movie comeback role as Park Mu Young in “Battleship Island.”
He provided more details of the movie such as posting online some photos of the movie set which would be shot in Nami Island, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. To be directed by Ryu Seung Wan it, the war movie requires Song Joong-ki to lose weight, so he is following a strict diet and exercise regime to lose weight.


Dreamers, an Indonesian entertainment website, reported that shooting of "Battleship Island" would begin on Friday, June 17. CJ EM, the distributor of the movie, hinted that similar to “Descendants of the Sun” which was broadcast simultaneously by KBS 2TV in South Korea and iQiyi in China, the war movie would also be released on the same date in 2017 in the two countries where the 16-episode blockbuster made TV history.
The CJ EM representative added, “Currently, Korea and China share the scars of World War II, so it is very likely that this film will be released on the same date in Korea and China.”
Before his Hong Kong fan meet, Song Joong-ki admitted that there were times he felt like cheating on his diet, especially when best friend Lee Kwang Soo arrived in Hong Kong to be his special guest in the June 10 fan meet which drew a crowd of 8,000 fans.

Song Joong Ki and Suzy voted 1st place for 'Male/Female Visuals Straight Out of Manhwa'

Manhwa is the Korean term for manga, or more simply, Korean comic books. Recently, one of Korea's most popular pasttimes has gone online just like everything else, into the form of webtoons. But there's no doubt that the Korean public still love manhwa, whatever form it may be in!

From May 23 - 29, an online webtoon platform surveyed 645 users to find out which celebrities best fit the t...itle of 'Male/Female Visuals Straight Out of Manhwa', or faces handsome and pretty enough to have ripped right through the ink and pages.

For males, the unchallenged winner was none other than Song Joong Ki, earning 23.72% of the total votes. Park Bo Gum came in 2nd place, Seo Kang Jun in 3rd, and Park Hae Jin in 4th.

For females, miss A's Suzy raked in 13.49% of the votes as 1st plae, while AOA's Seolhyun clenched 2nd with 10.85%. Actress Park Bo Young came in 3rd, Song Hye Kyo 4th, and Girl's Day's Hyeri in 5th.

Song Joong Ki will be donating a portion of his profits from the '2016 Asia Tour Fan Meeting




His agency, Blossom Entertainment, revealed on June 1, "Song Joong Ki will be donating a portion of his profits from the '2016 Asia Tour Fan Meeting.'"

According to the rep, he plans to make the donation to a foundation for the area affected by the earthquake in Wenchuan, China.  Previously, he had donated his entire appearance fee for the Chinese version of 'Running Man.

On May 22, Song Joong Ki’s agency, Blossom Entertainment, stated, “Song Joong Ki had a special fan meeting with 6,500 fans in Wuhan, the fourth stop in China for his ‘2016 Asia Tour Fan Meeting,’” and, “He was able to casually speak short phrases in Chinese, even surprised his fans by using the Wuhan dialect.”

During a Q&A session with his fans, the actor was asked, “What would you have become if you did not become a an actor?” Song Joong Ki wittily responded, “If I did not become an actor, I would have become Lee Kwang Soo’s manager,” yet again displaying his loyalty to their friendship. He also gave his opinion on giving to those in need. “Giving is something that I feel I will have to continuously do in the future.”

Meanwhile, Song Joong Ki made an appearance on Chinese variety program, “Happy Camp,” on May 21. This episode reached a record in highest viewership for the show this year, and was also the highest viewership of any episode that featured a Korean guest, solidifying his reputation as the “National Husband.”

On May 20, Chinese variety show “Happy Camp” posted new stills of Song Joong Ki on their official Weibo account. They add a caption that says, “This Saturday night, three ‘Song Hye Kyo‘s’ will appear on ‘Happy Camp.’ Who will be his real love?”

In the revealed photos, the actor transforms into his role of Captain Yoo Si Jin once more, and reenacts memorable, romantic scenes from “Descendants of the Sun,” with the female “Happy Camp” MCs taking on the role of Kang Mo Yeon (originally played by Song Hye Kyo). Their amicable interactions warmed the hearts of everyone present.
